ELYSIUM trailer analysis

The clip begins with a tense base note (non-diegetic) which creates suspense and tension for the audience. This cuts to a fade to black with writing 'the year 2154' which is set in the future. This is one of the conventions featured in a science fiction film. This then cuts to the first few of what earth looks like which is shown using a establishing shot. It then cuts to a fade to black where it states that privileged live on Elysium which then shows what the people look like who live here.
